There's a stranger in my spare room - Spreading the word about Warmshowers

Warmshowers Forums Disabled

Dear Warmshowers Community, we know this is a time of concern for everyone around the globe due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  In an effort to streamline communication and better address the current needs of our community in a timely manner, we are temporarily disabling the forums and directing everyone to the Warmshowers Facebook Group. This will allow the Warmshowers Community a centralized place for comments, questions, and concerns related to touring and hosting. As always, we ask that you follow our community guidelines when posting.

There's a stranger in my spare room - Spreading the word about Warmshowers

I discovered the Warmshowers Community about the same time I discovered cycle touring and since then I have been amazed and humbled by the expereinces I have had all across the globe, both as a guest and a host. Sharing these experiences with friends and family I've even managed to sign up a few more converts along the way. But, whenever I try to explain the Warmshowers concept to people, I usually end up getting some funny looks and even more, some horrified questions, most usually:

"Why would you let a stranger stay with you?"

So, here's my attempt at a blog post to explain to people just why we host and stay with strangers and just how amazing a global community it really is.

Hope you enjoy - thoughts always welcomed!
