advertising

Dear Warmshowers management,

recently advertising is popping up in the forum feeds. I understand that there is a financial need for advertising, but I find it rather annoying to get ads for viagra and the like and to me it looks like spam. It makes me consider unsuscribing from warmshowers. That would be a pity as I otherwise much enjoy being a member. Could it be removed?
Kind regards
Anna

HI John, the ads are at the top of the forum feeds I get in my email.
It's hard to miss them, they come before any member post.
cheers

It looks like spam because it is spam and it is removed (as are the fake profiles posting it) usually within a day or two.

I believe what you are seeing is spam. The administrators work very hard at weeding out and banning spammers but they get thru and are so annoying.

Spam Control

As Registrar, I receive the daily report with all the new members of the last 24 hours. Unfortunately, by the time I receive and review the report, malicious activity has already occurred.

I am presently on tour myself. I have some newly trained volunteers helping out, but I have limited Internet access and time To make the final deletions.

Please know that advertisements are against the Warm Showers policy. This is an organization managed by volunteers. Please help safeguard the organization by writing to board@warmshowers.org about volunteer opportunities!

humbly .... Moderator ??

May I suggest that the Moderator alter the ( misleading !) title of this Thread ? I suggest it's now " ..advertising sp@m..."

For a moment , as I read the posts above, I thought the WS was finally taking advertising ( of some kind) as an income generator, as has been discussed some time ago, with much heat, IIRC..

Instead, I find it's just about random sp@mmers penetrating the process- and apparently creating tedious work for the admins.

Such a disappointment ..!
